Thanks to the explosion of craft brewing, it’s no wonder the international hop association has crowned hops Herb of the Year! Holding off such heavyweights as rosemary, fennel and who could forget oregano, to claim the highest of accolades that could ever be given to a herb.
Behind only water and tea, beer has the third highest consumption rate of any beverage in the world, besides imparting bitterness or accentuating the aroma, the flowering bulbs also act as a natural preservative. So it’s no wonder, with hops being so versatile and adding so much to the beer industry, that they now have been recognised as one of the world’s most outstanding herbs.
