Kindly join us in saying a big thank you to Alan Unwin for all his dedicated work, spanning nearly 7 decades, within the hop industry.
For those of you that may not be familiar with this name, we would love to share with you a little background into Alan and his considerable service within the hop industry!
The London Hop Exchange was the market centre for hop trading in the brewing industry, and it was here that Alan started his hop career in 1954. All harvested hops from Kent farms were brought to London by railway or boat to be traded within this iconic building.
Alan started as a runner and during his time in this fast-paced hub for hops, he worked his way up to become Crop Manager. The London Hop Exchange was an impressive place for Alan to start his passion of hops and in 1990 Alan pushed that enthusiasm further and left The London Hop Exchange to become Wealden Hops Sales Manager.
Wealden Hops is a cooperative that provide a quality end to end service for hop merchants internationally, working with the hop grower ensuring premium standard before bringing the hops from their garden to the glass!
In 2020 Alan retired and handed over this role to Robert Hudd. Through the good times and persevering through the bad times within the hop industry, Alan’s dependable service has been greatly appreciated and we would like to send our gratitude for this and wish him all the best for his retirement.
